La Vedetta
The Producer
La Vedetta is a distinguished, small-scale winery nestled in the prestigious Barbaresco denomination of Piedmont, Italy, a region celebrated for its Nebbiolo wines and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Founded by Marco Viglino and Swantje in 2016 on ancestral family land in Tre Stelle, the estate spans a mere 3.5 hectares, resulting in a meticulously controlled production of around 10,000 bottles annually. The winemakers adhere to a philosophy rooted in tradition, aiming for their wines to tell the unfiltered story of the unique Cà Grossa microclimate—known for its ideal vineyard exposure and marl-and-sand-rich soil. This dedication to expressing the territory's essence places La Vedetta among the most exciting, quality-focused producers in the Langhe.
The winery’s portfolio is a testament to the region's classic varietals, focusing primarily on Nebbiolo, from which they craft their acclaimed Barbaresco DOCG, including the elegant 'Cà Grossa' cru. In addition to their flagship Barbaresco, they produce a vibrant Langhe DOC Nebbiolo and structured Barbera d'Asti, often under the name 'Sarasino.' The commitment of La Vedetta extends to reviving lesser-known local grapes, such as Freisa, and experimenting with unique blends, such as the annually changing, dedication-driven red 'Swanti.' Marco and Swantje's combination of watchful tradition and creative disposition results in wines characterized by great finesse, purity of fruit, and a clear, elegant expression of the Langhe terroir.
