The Producer

Galognano is a place steeped in history, bearing a name of Lombard origin. The winery itself—part of the “La Foresta” estate—is one of the oldest surviving structures, dating back to the Early Middle Ages. Of particular significance is the discovery of 6th-century AD Gothic chalices; these are preserved at the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Siena (specifically at the branch in Colle di Val d’Elsa) and are known as the “Galognano Treasure.”
The Villa di Galognano was once owned by the Della Rena family, Florentine nobles. Indeed, the coat of arms on the chapel adjacent to the Villa can be traced back to this family; it also appears combined with the Quaratesi family crest, reflecting a marriage between Orazio della Rena and Margherita Quaratesi. Orazio della Rena (1564–1630) spent both his youth and his later years there. The Galognano estate was purchased around 1930 by great-grandfather Valente Ciappelli, a fabric merchant; recognizing the value of the estate's vineyards, he dedicated himself to the production and marketing of Chianti wine.

Today, Galognano is owned by sisters Erika and Iris Ciappelli. The winery, passed down through generations, is managed by Erika; she produces wines with great passion and dedication, personally overseeing every stage of the production process.
